When I stepped back from Council, I did so with clarity and optimism — not just about where our cities were headed, but about the role planning could play in shaping our future. For over two decades, I’ve worked at the intersection of planning, politics, and community, as a mayor, consultant, and researcher. I’ve seen the power of good planning to create liveable, inclusive, future-ready places. I’ve also seen how easily it can be derailed by short-term thinking — and how costly that can be for clients, communities, and councils alike. Greiss Planning exists to bring clarity, rigour, and steady leadership to the approvals process, so good projects can move forward with confidence.

Sydney Metro train

On 25 October 2026, Western Sydney International is scheduled to open to passengers. If you live in Campbelltown and want to catch a flight on public transport, your direct option is the new 845 bus. It runs every 30 minutes between 5am and 10pm, seven days a week, via Oran Park, with an advertised journey time of about 66 minutes to the airport. The bus is welcome, and better than nothing. But it is not what this region was promised.

In this opinion piece for South West Voice, I set out what has been committed so far, what has not, and why approvals are not what is holding Campbelltown back. Infrastructure is.

Macarthur has done more than its share of Sydney's growth. The airport was meant to bring a new generation of jobs within reach. Right now, they are an hour away by bus.
